The Office of Institutional Research & Analytics (OIRA) at Gustavus Adolphus College is dedicated to advancing the college’s mission by providing insights and information that support strategic planning and decision-making. Our office focuses on two key areas: Institutional Research and Academic Analytics. Each area contributes to the College’s understanding and use of information to enhance its operations and educational offerings.

Institutional Research

Purpose: The Institutional Research (IR) area is focused on supporting the college’s planning, assessment, and reporting activities. We provide reliable and accurate information that informs the college’s strategies and helps in achieving its goals.

Services:

  • Reporting and Compliance: The IR team is responsible for preparing and submitting required reports to governmental agencies and other external organizations. We ensure that the college meets all reporting obligations with precision and transparency.
  • Survey Design & Feedback Analysis: We design, administer, and analyze surveys to gather insights from students, faculty, and staff. These insights are used to improve programs, services, and the overall campus experience.
  • Research Studies: Our team conducts studies on various topics, including student outcomes, faculty effectiveness, and institutional performance. These studies provide the college with essential information for strategic decision-making.
  • Institutional Facts: We produce and update the College’s facts, which offers a comprehensive view of key institutional metrics, such as enrollment, retention, and graduation rates.

Academic Analytics

Purpose: The Academic Analytics (AA) area focuses on using information to support academic programs, enhance student success, and guide resource allocation. We work closely with academic leaders to provide the insights needed for effective planning and program improvement.

Services:

  • Interactive Dashboards: The AA team develops and maintains dashboards that offer access to critical academic metrics. These tools help track enrollment patterns, course performance, student retention, and more.
  • Predictive Insights: We apply advanced techniques to identify trends and patterns that can inform student support strategies and academic planning. Our work helps the college proactively address challenges and opportunities.
  • Data Literacy Training: The AA team provides workshops and resources to enhance data literacy among faculty and staff. These initiatives aim to equip the college community with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively interpret and utilize data in their respective roles.
  • Program Evaluation: The AA area collaborates with academic departments to assess the effectiveness of academic programs. We provide analysis that supports curriculum development, resource planning, and program enhancement.
