Description

This position supports the grounds maintenance program to ensure the grounds (roads, walks, athletic fields, trees, turf and shrubs) are maintained in an attractive and safe condition year-round. This position will help coordinate the implementation of construction and maintenance projects for campus grounds. The Grounds Maintenance crew conducts facility related maintenance in support of the College grounds. 

Employment Status: Full-time (1.0 FTE), Benefits-Eligible, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Anticipated Start Date = January 2025

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Perform routine grounds and and landscaping maintenance, which includes but is not limited to mowing lawn, tree trimming, flower bed up-keep, and edging around sidewalks, flowers, buildings, etc. 
  • Prepare and maintain outdoor locations for use by students, visitors, vendors, and community members
  • Paint and mark athletic fields, move bleachers and seating areas, and assist with assembly of portable goals or other athletic equipment
  • Operate waste/recycling collection trucks daily to systematically collect all waste and recyclable materials around campus
  • Train student workers, temporary, and seasonal personnel while providing supervision to ensure work is completed on time and meets department priorities and objectives
  • Perform routine maintenance functions year-round to ensure that campus grounds are maintained in the condition defined by the grounds maintenance program
  • Ensure roads and sidewalk surfaces are kept clear of snow and ice to maintain safe conditions
  • Maintain shop area, equipment and tools in a safe, clean and orderly condition; organize storage of equipment and vehicles in the facilities yard including parts inventory, and tool storage
  • Provide assistance to other areas of the Facilities Department, as needed
  • All other duties as assigned.

Prerequisites

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in grounds maintenance or related field
  • Experience operating pay-loader, skid steer, and/or forklift
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Valid Driver's License 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Exposure to outside weather conditions year-round
  • Operates heavy  equipment
  • Regular work involves moderate to heavy physical effort, including handling salt bags, moving furniture and equipment, and shoveling sand, soil, snow, etc.
  • Works on ladders and scaffolds, with a maximum height of up to 60 feet
  • Works with hazardous materials 
  • Provide on-call support and services for campus impacted weather conditions, as needed
  • Overtime may be necessary at various times throughout the year
