Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Coffee Shop Supervisor to join our team at Gustavus Adolphus College’s on-campus coffee shop, the STEAMery. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing excellent customer service, leading a team of student employees, and ensuring a high-quality experience for all guests. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the smooth operation and welcoming atmosphere of the STEAMery Cafe, located in Nobel Hall. 

Employment Status: Full-time (.76 FTE/9 months), Benefits-Eligible, Non-exempt (Hourly). The work schedule is Monday-Friday from 6:30am-3:00pm, with the possibility of modified hours for events. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Co-Supervise day to day operations of a high volume coffee shop
  • Demonstrate creativity in developing and maintaining the drink menu
  • Train and supervise student employees, providing work direction and leadership
  • Provide excellent customer service to all guests and develop and maintain a student friendly environment 

Prerequisites

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to create a welcoming and positive atmosphere.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a team.
  • Ability to manage cash transactions accurately and responsibly.
  • Proficiency in maintaining cleanliness and adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Experience in a supervisory role within a food service environment, preferred. 

Additional Information:

  • This position may require some flexibility in scheduling, including some evenings and weekends, to accommodate the needs of the coffee shop.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights.
  • This position has been designated as weather- or emergency-essential. In the event of a closure of the College, it is vital that you report to work if scheduled. You will receive regular pay for the hours normally scheduled to work that day plus your overtime rate at 1 ½ times your regular rate for the actual hours worked during the closing
