This is a temporary, grant-funded position working 16 hours per week between August 22 - December 16, 2022. 

JOB SUMMARY:  The primary function of the Respiratory Clinic Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is to provide Respiratory Clinic related health services to students and employees at Gustavus Adolphus College. The Respiratory Clinic APP functions independently and interdependently with peers and other health professionals. The Respiratory Clinic APP demonstrates competency in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of acute, chronic, and minor medical problems. The Respiratory Clinic APP functions within the framework of established clinical privileges and protocols and scope of practice. There is emphasis on the prevention of respiratory illness and responding to respiratory related health needs of the campus. 


  • Assess and treat patients presenting for health care so they may return to an optimum state of health.  Responsibilities will primarily focus on assessing individuals who present with respiratory illness, assisting with administration of influenza and COVID vaccines, and providing education about management of COVID exposures and infections in the clinical setting.
  • Educate patients regarding their current health status so that they are aware of their condition(s) and share responsibility for their health care. This includes education about utilizing and understanding healthcare systems and increasing knowledge related to health insurance and pharmacy benefits.
  • Record pertinent information so that accurate medical/legal records are maintained.  Provider is responsible for coding and billing of all patient encounters. 
  • Communicate with patients and others regarding health questions, concerns, and follow up and appropriate information is given in accordance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).


REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA).  Nurse practitioners are licensed as both a registered nurse (RN) and an advanced practice nurse (APRN) through the state of Minnesota.  They must also maintain certification nationally as a nurse practitioner through either ANCC or AANP. Physician Assistants are licensed by the MN board of medicine. They must hold a degree from an accredited PA program and maintain national certification by NCCPA.  Advanced Practice Providers must also maintain an active DEA license to prescribe medication.
