Gift Planner in Advancement

Bill Kuehn serves as a Gift Planner at Gustavus Adolphus College.  He graduated from Hopkins High School in 1986 and then went on to Gustavus Adolphus College and graduated with a major in History in 1990.  Bill started his working career at a small company called Recovery Engineering, Inc. which eventually became PUR, Inc.  At PUR, he marketed and sold watermakers for offshore cruising sailors.   After 5 years with PUR, Inc., Bill joined MJK, Inc. as an Equity Trader buying and selling stock for clients and for the company.  Eventually, Bill moved into Financial Advising for the same firm which became Stifel Nicolaus, Inc. after a number of company acquisitions.  He specialized in venture capital investing in small medical device companies.

In 2001, Bill went back to school at the University of St. Thomas to pursue a Master’s Degree of Teaching.  After completing the degree, he went on to teach students at the high school level in U.S. History, World History, and Economics.  He taught at Hopkins, Minnetonka, St. Louis Park, Eden Prairie, and Woodbury High Schools.  He especially enjoyed the interaction with students and the learning process.

His love of education, Gustavus, and his interest in finance led to his joining the Advancement Team at Gustavus.  He married a Gustie (Julie Elvestrom Kuehn ’88) and they have two children, Jorrun Kuehn '24 at Gustavus and Christopher Kuehn at Minnetonka High School.  Bill and family love to spend time at the cabin on Sand Lake in central Minnesota.   Bill rides a bike on the many Minnetonka trails, reads history books, and attempts to keep up with the lives of two busy children.
