Marie Walker (Psychological Science) and Emma Iverson '10, published an article in Emerging Adulthood titled, "Identity Development and Political Self-Regulation in Emerging Adult Political Attitudes and Behavior."

Jeff Jeremiason (Chemistry) received funding for a two-year project, through his collaboration with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for the project "Refining Our Understanding of Methylmercury Production and Bioavailability in the St. Louis River Estuary."

Tom Huber (Physics) received a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation for the project "Detection of Ultrasound Waves in Water and Air Using a Laser Interferometer."

News & Announcements

2016 State Fair Training... If you have volunteered to work at the Gustavus booth at the Minnesota State Fair, there will be a 20-minute training opportunity prior to the event. Training will take place at 1 p.m. on Mon., Aug. 22 or at 10 a.m. on Tues., Aug. 23. Location is the Konferensrum in the Jackson Campus Center. Human Resources 101...Please join us for a meeting at 10 a.m. on August 23 at at 2 p.m. on August 25 in the Three Crowns room to learn more about our Human Resources team and what we are working on in our office to support our employees. Lund Center Repairs...Due to the construction on the Lund Center roof, we will have intermittent parking restrictions throughout the months of August and September. Please watch for barricade changes. We are sorry for any inconvenience. Please direct any questions/concerns to the physical plant office at 507-933-7504.

New Student Move-In Day Specific Information...Please note that from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 2, all traffic will enter the College either at the Sunrise Drive/Grace Street entrance or via the Jefferson Avenue entrance. Please allow extra time for arriving and parking on campus and comply with directions and requests of the Campus Safety officers and understand that the shortest route to your building or your usual parking spot might not be available to you. The College Avenue entrance will be routed as EXIT ONLY from campus so please do not plan on driving up College Avenue to enter campus. Attempting to enter on College Avenue will result in you being re-routed to either the Jefferson or Sunrise/Grace entrances.

Additionally, Campus Drive (Ring Road) between the Jefferson and College Avenue entrances will be restricted to ONE WAY traffic going down the hill. Campus Drive from the intersection closest to Uhler and North Halls to the College Avenue entrance will be restricted to ONE WAY traffic going down the hill as well.  

Finally, we will reserve the Norelius lot, the Guest lot, the Sohre lot and the Arboretum lot for first-year students and their families on Friday, Sept. 2. Employees and upperclass students should park in other lots on the morning of Sept 2. Beck, Lund, Southwest, College View or the Heating Plant lots will likely be the ones you should check first for parking availability. Please note that on Saturday, Sept. 3 the Lund lot is closed for the annual Square Dance. Any vehicles in the Lund lot when setup begins for the dance will be towed at owner's expense. Please park in alternate lots on Saturday.

Parking Permits...Don't forget to register for your parking permit online.  Online registration is open through Aug. 21, and permits will be delivered to campus mailboxes the week of Aug. 22. If you miss the online registration window, registration will be available in the Campus Safety office Aug. 29-Sept. 5. Please begin parking according to permit color starting that week, and note that any vehicle not displaying a new valid parking permit will be cited beginning 7 a.m. on the first day of class, Tues. Sept. 6. Students and employees are responsible for knowing the campus parking and traffic regulations at https://gustavus.edu/safety/policies/traffic.php

TIAA-CREF Individual Counseling Sessions…A TIAA-CREF representative will be on campus Sept. 6-Sept. 8. To schedule an appointment, go to tiaa-cref.org/schedulenow or contact (800) 732-8353, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. (ET).

Volunteers Sought...The Center for International and Cultural Education (CICE) is seeking volunteers for its International Friendship Family Program. Gustavus international students are matched with local families. The family will typically invite the student to their home for an occasional dinner, family function, trip, or event. It is a great opportunity for the family and the student to share cultures! It does not take a large time commitment and is very rewarding. With the increase in international student enrollment, we need many more families. All families and individuals are welcome! Please join the Le Sueur-Henderson Community Theatre for their first Magic the Gathering event. New and current players are welcome.   • Rev. Dr. Svante Bernhard Erling, professor emeritus of religon at the College passed away on Fri., July 1, 2016. Funeral Services were held on Fri., July 8. A full obituary can be read online.

For Sale...I have for sale a beautiful queen size bedspread. It is dark brown made of velveteen and satin. It comes with two matching pillow shams and two decorator pillows. I am asking $45 or B/O. I also have a very nice shower/bathroom ensemble. There is a shower curtain with hooks, four large bath towels, two wash cloths and one hand towel. I would like $25 or B/O for those. The colors are purple, lavender and teal in the curtain, towels are purple with a strip of the curtain colors. If interested please contact Becky Barnes and I can send you pictures.
