January 29, 2019, Cabinet Meeting Summary
1. Discussion was held regarding establishing a policy for designating weather or emergency essential positions. Further conversation will be held at a future meeting.
2. Members debriefed on the “Picture Yourself at Gustavus” admission event held at the International Market Square on Sunday evening. Members expressed their appreciation to those employees involved in the planning of the event.
3. Discussion was held regarding planning the FY 2020 budget.
4. Vice President Tunheim reviewed the results of the FY 2018 employee performance appraisal process and the plans for the process for FY 2019.
5. Provost Kelly reported that GusMail migration for all employees was completed as scheduled on Tuesday, January 23. Members expressed appreciation to GTS staff for their work on this migration process.
Employee Enhancement Days...All employees are encouraged to join in the many activities scheduled for Employee Enhancement Days. New this year is a canvas painting class, the opportunity to meet new CFO Curtis Kowaleski, resiliency wellbeing, financial goal setting and much more. If you attend five different sessions, you may enter to win one of three Fit Bits; details provided at each session. Looking forward to seeing you at Employee Enhancement Days.
Nominations for Presidents' Awards... Gustavus members are invited to submit nominations for the 2019 Minnesota Campus Compact Presidents’ Awards for Civic Engagement. The Presidents' Awards provide an opportunity for presidents who are members of Minnesota Campus Compact to give statewide recognition to effective leaders in the development of campus-community partnerships. Each president from a Minnesota Campus Compact member institution may recognize one honoree in each of three categories: Student Leadership, Civic Steward, and Community Partner. To submit a nomination, please visit the Community Based Service & Learning (CBSL) website. Please submit electronic nominations no later than by 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2019.

Christenson Lectureship in Politics and Law... Kathryn Christenson established the lecture to honor her late husband, Ronald Christenson, who founded the Gustavus Political Science Department in 1969. This year, G. Barry Anderson will be lecturer. He is a 1976 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College and a 1979 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School. He was a member of the Minnesota Court of Appeals from August 1988 until his appointment to the Minnesota Supreme Court. He was sworn in and joined the court on October 13, 2004.
Saint Peter Winterfest...The opening ceremony party for the Saint Peter Winterfest will be held at 5 p.m. Fri., February 1 in Levee Park. This event will include:
- Free hot chocolate and s'mores making
- Reading of first Medallion clue at 6 p.m.
- Free Medallion Medals to the first 100 participants
- Mini-Medallion Hunt; prizes awarded
- Levee Luminary Loppet (Bring skis. Ski among luminaries)
- Medallion hunting in Levee Park
First clue for medallion hunt will be on website at 6 p.m. Feb 1. Prize for finding the medallion is $1,000 in Chamber Bucks. This event is a free event and open to all ages. Activities for this week's events includes a Polar Plunge at 1 p.m. at Hallett’s Pond and a post party following at 4 p.m.- 7 p.m.Patrick’s the schedule of events can be found on the St. Peter Chamber of Commerce website.

Director of Lifelong Learning Opening... First Lutheran Church, Saint Peter, invites applications for a full-time position of Director of Lifelong Learning. This position is full time (40 hours per week; salary/benefits commensurate with experience) and reports directly to the senior pastor. The Director of Lifelong Learning will provide spiritual and practical leadership for the education programs of First Lutheran Church including Sunday School, Confirmation, High School Youth Group, and Adult Education. Oblituaries
Quin R. Hauss M.D. (father of Sarah Hauss, Theatre and Dance), died peacefully on November 1, 2018, after a valiant fight with Parkinson's Disease. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2019 in San Luis Obispo, Calif. A full obituary is available online.
