New Service-Learning and Travel Opportunities for Employees...The offices of Community-Based Service and Learning (CBSL) and Human Resources are offering Gustavus faculty and staff the opportunity to be Trip Advisers for upcoming Habitat for Humanity volunteer trips during spring break (April 1-April 8). This is an exceptional way for employees to grow in community service learning and professional development. Trip Adviser guidelines are posted on the CBSL website. There is no cost to participate and all employees are eligible (see guideline for approvals needed). Applications are online here (and on the CBSL website) and must be submitted by November 10, 2017. Christmas in Christ Chapel 2017: Life Abundant: A Celebration of Christmas during the 500th year of the Reformation will celebrate the nativity through the rich and diverse heritage of music, word, and art inspired by the global Lutheran movement – both historic in depth and continually emerging in scope. Ushers are also requested for each service. All ushers may stay for the service at no cost (a great way for family members to attend for free). WE BELIEVE Giving Campaign...The 2017 WE BELIEVE Faculty/Staff Giving Campaign is happening from November 2-22. Co-chaired by Michele Koomen (Lind Professor of Education) and Steve Kjellgren '86 (Associate Vice President-Auxiliary Services), our goal is to encourage all employees to support the College. It is All of Us for All of Gustavus. Last year, our campus community rallied and generously raised enough funds to sponsor the first year of three WE BELIEVE Heritage Scholarships. Let's rally together again to fund the second year of our scholarships.
Our WE BELIEVE scholarships were generously matched dollar-for-dollar by a member of our Board of Trustees. The Heritage Scholarship Program at Gustavus forms a fundamental core of our new financial aid funding process for students who are academically well prepared, but for whom a Gustavus education would otherwise be financially out of reach. With the match, each award is $6,000 for a student. Let's do it again this year.
Gustavus Acts Stategic Planning...Please join President Bergman and Kathi Tunheim during one of the upcoming Gustavus Acts Strategic Planning Prioritization Feedback Sessions. This important work, combined with the results of a similar prioritization exercise with members of the Board of Trustees, the Cabinet, and the faculty, will help create a strong path forward for the College. The sessions are scheduled at 8:30-9:30 a.m. or 1:30 -2:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2017 in Alumni Hall.
Please feel free to email Kathi if you have questions.
Fall Play Tickets Available...Tickets are now available online at gustavustickets.com or by calling 507-933-7590 for the Department of Theatre and Dance production of Our Country's Good by Timberlake Wertenbaker, directed by Amy Seham. Performances will be held November 16-18 at 8:00 p.m. and November 19 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets not sold before the event will be placed on sale one hour prior to curtain at the Anderson Theatre box office. Gustavus students and staff are entitled to one free ticket for the production. Other tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for senior citizens and other students.
