Philosophy Video Directions

In completing this assignment, you will use a program called iMovie which allows you to edit digital video and create a Quicktime movie. Rather than writing an "educational philosophy" at this point in your career, you will be asked to think carefully about several questions, type an outline that responds to each question, and then record video of your responses with a partner. You might choose to use title slides to pose the questions within the movie project, or have your partner ask you the questions during filming.

Using the features of iMovie, you will create a Quicktime movie, meeting the criteria listed below. Your movie will be a professional way to share your basic philosophy of teaching and learning, or health promotion. Without a doubt, seniors will have the most mature understanding of the teaching and learning process; however, this video can be updated or replaced as your educational philosophy evolves. Once you learn iMovie, you will discover that it is very easy to use!

Health Education/Health Fitness majors can either choose to complete their video with a focus on education and teaching or respond to the second set of questions listed below. These questions ask you to think about the health profession and health promotion.

In preparing your typed, formal outline, respond to these questions if you are a Physical Education and Health Education major:

1. Why do you want to be a teacher?

2. What qualities do you possess that will help you be a truly effective teacher?

3. As you think about your educational experience as a student, and/or teaching experience in methods classes, describe what you think constitutes "effective teaching." (Try to share a specific example and why you think this is effective teaching.)

4. Why do you want to work with children or teens?
