Newsletter

Newsletter Addressed to Parents
of Students in Your Classroom

We will teach the class advanced use of MS Word including features that enable a teacher to create well-designed newsletters. Each person will then develop a two-page informational newsletter for parents of students (either grade 5 or grade 8). Topic must be appropriate within your discipline and relate to students in your class. Some examples of possible topic Choices:

  • Educational Standards In (your discipline) Can Improve Student Learning
  • Media Messages Can Affect Adolescent Body Image
  • Art Teaches Critical Thinking, A Fundamental Learning Skill
  • Teacher Actions Can Reduce Bullying in Elementary and Middle Schools
  • Music Education Should be Required in Elementary Schools
  • Physical Education Can Improve Self-Esteem and Confidence
  • Science Education Must Begin Early

Each of you must sign up for a topic of interest and if the instructors have concerns, we will discuss your topic with you before you begin working on the newsletter. Your Inspiration assignment will serve as the planning guide for your Newsletter topic.

Your task is to create a well-designed, content rich newsletter to be mailed to all parents of your students. The newsletter will be critiqued by course instructors. Once edited, you will publish it on the Technology Page within your portfolio. Required components of your newsletter include a banner (on the first page which usually contains the name of the newsletter, possibly graphics or a logo, and perhaps a subtitle, motto, and publication information), articles, contact information (such as Ms. Smith, 4th grade Social Studies teacher, phone number, email, etc.), and references.
