Charlie earned his EdD in Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development (emphasis in Higher Education) from the University of Minnesota. He completed his dissertation research on the influence that social media has on male college students gender identity development and gendered performance.

Charlie holds a master's degree in Educational Policy & Administration from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor's degree in English from Gustavus. 

After completing his master's degree, Charlie worked in residential life/housing and campus activities at St. Olaf College and the University of St. Thomas before returning to Gustavus in 2011 as the Director of Residential Life. 

An active member of higher ed student affairs professional organizations, Charlie has held various leadership positions at both the regional and national level. The recipient of research grants and awards from NASPA and UMR-ACUHO, Charlie's primary research interests include social media, masculinity, and college student mental health and well-being.

Charlie was awarded the Linda Schrempp Alberg Award for Outstanding Contributions to Minnesota Higher Education by the Minnesota College Personnel Association in 2015.

The most important part of Charlie's life is being the husband to Angie, a STEM teacher in St. Peter, and the father to twin boys Ethan and Owen.
