Charlie Potts ’01Alumni and Staff
Charlie is a proud Gustavus graduate, earning a BA in English before deciding to work in higher ed administration. He holds a master's degree in Educational Policy & Administration from the University of Minnesota. Charlie also earned his EdD in Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development (emphasis in Higher Education) from the University of Minnesota, with dissertation research focused on the influence that social media has on male college students' gender identity development and gendered performance.
Charlie worked in residential life/housing and campus activities at St. Olaf College and the University of St. Thomas before returning to Gustavus in 2011 as the Director of Residential Life.
An active member of higher ed student affairs professional organizations, Charlie has held various leadership positions at both the regional and national level. The recipient of research grants and awards from NASPA and UMR-ACUHO, Charlie's primary research interests include digital wellbeing, social media use, masculinity, and college student mental health and wellbeing.
Charlie was awarded the Linda Schrempp Alberg Award for Outstanding Contributions to Minnesota Higher Education by the Minnesota College Personnel Association in 2015.
Charlie currently serves as the Chair of the St. Peter School Board - Minnesota ISD 508.
The most important part of Charlie's life is being the husband to Angie, Director of Educational Technology & Information Systems for Mankato Area Public Schools, and the father to twin boys Ethan and Owen.
