Update on Employee Enhancement Days...Thursday's Employee Enhancement Day activities have been postponed until Friday, February 8. Marni Dunning's session, "Create Spectacular Surveys Using Qualtrics," has been rescheduled to Friday at 11 a.m. Mary McHugh's "Data Review," has been moved to Friday at noon. If you are interested in attending the canvas painting class, please note that it has been rescheduled to Friday at 2 p.m. and spaces are available. Email Nicole Goebel in Human Resources if interested in signing up for the canvas painting class. 

Safety Tip...Physical Plant staff continue to remove snow and apply salt, sand, and de-icer to campus sidewalks and parking lots, but cycles of freezing rain, subzero temperatures, and repeated snowfalls have caused particularly slippery conditions. Students and staff are encouraged to wear appropriate winter footwear, allow extra time, and exercise caution when walking on campus.

Nominations for Presidents' Awards... Gustavus members are invited to submit nominations for the 2019 Minnesota Campus Compact Presidents’ Awards for Civic Engagement. The Presidents' Awards provide an opportunity for presidents who are members of Minnesota Campus Compact to give statewide recognition to effective leaders in the development of campus-community partnerships. Each president from a Minnesota Campus Compact member institution may recognize one honoree in each of three categories: Student Leadership, Civic Steward, and Community Partner. To submit a nomination, please visit the Community Based Service & Learning (CBSL) website. Please submit electronic nominations no later than by 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2019.

Nominations for Student Life awards and scholarships... Employees are highly encouraged to take some time in the next few weeks to nominate the stellar students they work with for any number of Student Life awards and scholarships All of the information you need and the centralized nomination form are available by clicking here. The deadline for all nominations is Friday, February 22. Any questions can be directed to Megan Ruble in the Dean of Students Office. Thank you in advance for helping us recognize deserving student leaders.

Theatre Tickets Available... The Department of Theatre and Dance will present Iphigenia and Other Daughters by Ellen McLaughlin, directed by guest faculty Matt Trucano, on February 21-23 at 8 p.m. and February 24 at 2 p.m. Tickets not sold before the event will be placed on sale one hour prior to curtain at the Anderson Theatre box office. Gustavus students and staff are entitled to one free ticket for the production. Other tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for senior citizens and other students. Tickets are now available online at gustavustickets.com or by calling 507-933-7590 for

Off Campus Events

Music on the Hill Chamber Music Series... At 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, the series will feature a concert of Olivier Messaien's Quartet for the End of Time and Bela Bartok's Contrasts. Members of The Minnesota Orchestra and Gustavus faculty member Esther Wang will perform. The concert takes place at the Our Lady of Good Counsel Chapel, 170 Good Counsel Drive, Mankato, MN, 56001. Immigration & Us: What Do We Know? What Must We Know...? The 2019 Simpson Forum at Trinity Lutheran Church in Saint Peter is scheduled for Saturday, February 23 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The speakers for the forum will be Jodi Harpstead (CEO of Lutheran Social Service of MInnesota), Yusuf Abdi, (LSS Director of Refugee Services,) and Gustavus faculty Dr. Jeff Owen, Dr. Blake Couey, and Dr. Darrell Jodock, and will cover a wide range of immigration topics from historical and legal to theological and economic. Saint Peter Choral Society Concert...The Saint Peter Choral Society presents Songs of Bernstein and Rodgers & Hammerstein at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 17 at the Saint Peter High School Auditorium. Tickets for the general public are $8 in advance at Swedish Kontur, $10 at the door. Students free. Soloist Dr. Michael Jorgensen will sing "Some Enchanted Evening."

Director of Lifelong Learning Opening... First Lutheran Church, Saint Peter, invites applications for a full-time position of Director of Lifelong Learning. This position is full time (40 hours per week; salary/benefits commensurate with experience) and reports directly to the senior pastor. The Director of Lifelong Learning will provide spiritual and practical leadership for the education programs of First Lutheran Church including Sunday School, Confirmation, High School Youth Group, and Adult Education. Obituaries

Alberta "Berta" Lanars, mother of Vicky Domras, Print and Mail Services, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019. The funeral service will take place at 12 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church in Kasota with visitation from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will be in Kasota Hill Cemetery. A full obituary is available online.

Inside Gustavus is a newsletter for Gustavus Adolphus College employees produced by the Office of Marketing and Communication. It is published weekly during the academic year (except during the week of Thanksgiving, the Christmas break, Touring Week, and the Spring and Easter breaks). Anyone may submit items by filling out an online submission form. While online submissions are preferred, items may also be submitted typewritten on a letter-sized sheet of paper.
