Cabinet Meeting Summary - January 22, 2019
1. Discussion was held regarding planning the FY 2020 budget.
2. Members discussed the Town Hall call sponsored by the Alumni and Parent Engagement Office on Thursday, February 21, 7-8 p.m. Cabinet members were encouraged to attend.
3. Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Kirk Carlson reminded members of Scholarship Day on Saturday, February 23.
The Drenttel Golf Facility...The facility is open to the public from 1 p.m.- 4 p.m. on Sunday, 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. on Friday. There are clubs available to use, no reservations necessary. Cost is $10/person per hour. Any questions, contact Scott Moe or visit this page.
Employee Enhancement Days...All employees are encouraged to join in the many activities scheduled for Employee Enhancement Days. Click here to see more details about the sessions and a calendar of all events. New this year is a canvas painting class, the opportunity to meet new CFO Curtis Kowaleski, resiliency wellbeing, financial goal setting and much more.
If you attend five different sessions, you may enter to win one of three Fit Bits; details provided at each session. Looking forward to seeing you at Employee Enhancement Days.
Lab order reminder... Gustavus Health Service is able to see employees for lab work with off campus provider orders. We offer very reasonable lab prices. Please bring your orders or have them faxed directly to the Health Service at 507-933-6074 (fax) prior to your lab work appointment. If you have any questions determining if your concern is an issue that can be seen by a provider in the Gustavus Health Service, please feel free to call 507-933-7630 to ask. We are unable to see retirees or accept Medicare.
Key Audit...Campus Safety will be conducting a Key Audit by Google Form in the near future. We will be sending an email out through the employee-l@gustavus.edu alias so that everyone should know that it is legit and coming from Campus Safety. FedEx Service Alerts...FedEx will be operating in the Atlanta metro area during Super Bowl LIII festivities from January 26 – February 3, 2019. Some customers in the Atlanta area may experience service delays or disruptions during this time because of government security measures in place for Super Bowl LIII.
Shipping to affected areas?
To help avoid delays, we encourage you to contact your recipients to verify whether their location is open or able to receive deliveries before and after Super Bowl LIII.
Note that potential service disruptions may not affect FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Freight, FedEx Office, etc. the same way. This may result in different levels of impact as well as cities, states and ZIP Codes serviced.
2019 All-Employee Meetings...An all-employee meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2019, in Cec Eckhoff Alumni Hall. All faculty, staff, and administrators are encouraged to attend to hear a progress report on institutional goals and other related topics. Save The Date: the next all-employee meeting is 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 in Cec Eckhoff Alumni Hall.
MAYDAY! Peace Conference...This year's conference will be Wednesday, May 1, 2019 and will feature internationally known author Thomas L. Freidman. He is a writer for The New York Times focused on foreign affairs, global trade, the Middle East, globalization, and environmental issues. A live interview will be held at 10 a.m. in Christ Chapel and an 11:45 a.m. lunch will take place in the banquet rooms. Tickets and more information can be found online.
Art exhibition preview and Nobel Conference Launch Party...Be the first to view the new exhibition at the American Swedish Institute, Imagine: Surreal Photography by Erik Johansson, from 7-10 p.m. on Friday, January 25. Meet exhibit artist Erik Johansson, Gustavus professor Betsy Byers, and Gustavus student Emily Dzieweczynski, who will share their perspective on art, environment, and climate change. The preview party will include live music, in-the-moment drawing/visual notetaking, sampling from the Water Bar, and food and curated cocktails available for purchase from FIKA. Tickets for the Nobel Conference 55 will go on sale in conjunction with this event. Learn more and buy event tickets at the ASI website.
Saint Peter Winterfest...The opening ceremony party for the Saint Peter Winterfest will be held at 5 p.m. Fri., February 1 in Levee Park. This event will include:
- Free hot chocolate and s'mores making
- Reading of first Medallion clue at 6 p.m.
- Free Medallion Medals to the first 100 participants
- Mini-Medallion Hunt; prizes awarded
- Levee Luminary Loppet (Bring skis. Ski among luminaries)
- Medallion hunting in Levee Park
First clue for medallion hunt will be on website at 6 p.m. Feb 1. Prize for finding the medalian is $1,000 in Chamber Bucks. This event is a free event and open to all ages. More information about the Saint Peter Winterfest can be found on the Saint Peter Chamber of Commerce website.

Obituaries
Audrey Atherton, mother of Suzanne Wilson (Sociology and Anthropology), died December 28 at her home in Hot Springs, Arkansas surrounded by family. Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Wilson and Evelyn Landrith, and two grandchildren and their spouses, Graham and Elizabeth Landrith and Audrey Ann and Andrew Pruitt.

Inside Gustavus is a newsletter for Gustavus Adolphus College employees produced by the Office of Marketing and Communication. It is published weekly during the academic year (except during the week of Thanksgiving, the Christmas break, Touring Week, and the Spring and Easter breaks). Anyone may submit items by filling out an online submission form. While online submissions are preferred, items may also be submitted typewritten on a letter-sized sheet of paper. Send "snail mail" items to: Inside Gustavus, Office of Marketing and Communication. Items must reach the office no later than 4:30 p.m. on the Tuesday before publication.
