Honors

Mongolia2Writing an honors thesis offers students the opportunity to execute a substantial independent research project and to be considered for a Bachelor's Degree with Honors.

This option is open to outstanding students who wish to further disciplinary knowledge and skills and may be particularly attractive for students who intend to enter graduate school in sociology or anthropology. The S/A honors thesis is a long-term project that takes two semesters, usually the final two semesters before graduation, and will require you to work with a current member of the S/A faculty who will serve as your project advisor.

If interested, please contact a faculty member or the department chair. For specific information on GPA and course work requirements, please consult the academic catalog.

There are two honor societies affiliated with the department, Alpha Kappa Delta (sociology) and Lambda Alpha (anthropology). These organizations provide recognition for outstanding scholarship within their respective fields and give students a more active role in pursuing professional goals.
