High School Dance Workshop

Gustavus HS Dance WorkshopThe Department of Theatre and Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College is excited to offer a workshop for high school students (grades 9-12) taught by Gustavus dance faculty.

Cost is FREE, but registration is required. Space is limited, so please register early.

Workshop Schedule - Saturday, October 27

9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Classes offering a sampling of dance forms including:

  • Ballet
  • Jazz
  • Contemporary Modern
  • Global Practices
12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Lunch

  • Bring your own or purchase lunch at Gustavus' award-winning cafeteria
1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Improvisation
  • Composition
  • Opportunity for informal showings of work in progress, performance, and choreography (optional)
  • Collaboration with current Gustavus dance students

Instructors

Faculty instructors will include Sue Gunness, Sarah Hauss, Giselle Mejia, Jill Patterson, and Melissa Rolnick. You may click their names to view more information about them.

Location

Gustavus Adolphus College is located at 800 West College Avenue in St. Peter, Minnesota. The workshop will be held in Kresge Dance Studio, which is in the Schaefer Fine Arts Center. You can find a campus map here, and the building is located at the intersection of E-4, where it says Theatre and Dance Wing. Free parking is available beside the building in lot J as indicated on the map (you may park in employee or visitor areas since parking regulations are not enforced on weekends).

What to Wear

Students should wear comfortable clothes that allow for movement (leggings, leotards/tights, yoga pants, sweat pants). Students may bring jazz and/or ballet slippers if they have them, otherwise bare feet are appropriate.

Parents

Parents are welcome to explore the campus during the workshop and have lunch with their student. Downtown St. Peter has various shops, an arts center, and coffee shops/restaurants to visit.

Waiver

Attendees will be required to sign a waiver of liability form before attending the workshop. The form will be emailed to you upon registration. If students are under age 18, parents will need to sign, as well.
