Input Requested...The President's Cabinet is seeking comments on the following proposed policy regarding pets and workplace:
Employees are not allowed to bring pets into the workplace; however, a service animal under the control of its owner/handler may be allowed. Immediate supervisors of employees are responsible for ensuring compliance with this policy. Employees whose duties require them to reside in campus housing may request approval from the appropriate Vice President to house a pet in their private residence. Pets visiting or passing through non-workplace areas on campus must be leashed or appropriately restrained and must be under the continuous supervision of the owner.
Definitions: For purposes of this policy, a pet is defined as any animal that is not a service or research animal. A service animal is defined as a duly licensed and vaccinated animal trained to do work or perform services for the benefit of an individual with a disability. A research animal is an animal purchased by the College as part of a research project or instructional program. The workplace is defined as any place on or off campus where an employee conducts business or provides instructional services on behalf of the College.
Comments may be submitted to Kirk Beyer in the Department of Human Resources at kbeyer@gustavus.edu.
