ABSTRACT:
The Gunnar Myrdal collection contains selected articles and speeches from the 1960s and ‘70s.  Most were written while Myrdal was at the Institute for International Economic Studies at Stockholm University and cover different topics, from race relations, to economics, to world peace.  Myrdal (1898-1987) was a Swedish Nobel Laureate economist, sociologist, and politician best known for his study of race relations in the United States.  He received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1974.  In 1971, both Myrdal and Alva, his wife, received honorary doctorates from Gustavus Adolphus College.  Gunnar Myrdal received a Doctor of Humane Letters and Alva Myrdal received a Doctor of Divinity.  They both visited and presented lectures at the college during November 1971.
