Wool Hand Carders, 1800s.  CAMC Collection 85.  1 Hollinger box.

ABSTRACT:
The wool hand carders collection contains two hand carders from the 1800s.  These were most likely brought to the United States by Swedish immigrants.  Hand carders were used to break up clumps of fibers and align the individual fibers parallel to each other.  After the fibers have been carded, the material can then be used for spinning.  One of the carders was donated by Mrs. J.A. Edquist and the other was made by “Sions Skede” in Sweden.
