ABSTRACT:

The Cecile Johnson collection consists of letters from Cecile Johnson, a student at Gustavus Adolphus College, to her parents in Red Wing, Minnesota written during the 1930s.  Penned throughout the school year between 1935 and 1938, Johnson told her parents, primarily her mother, about her activities, hopes, and fears.  She graduated during May 1938 and went on to become a teacher in Fertile, Minnesota.  There are a few letters drafted during her teaching career.  Additional materials consist of documents created while she was a student and include a graduation bulletin and invitation, formal correspondence, and information about plays.
