The Choir of Christ Chapel

For fifty years, Christ Chapel has been a center for faith exploration, lively intellectual discourse, and vivid music expression on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College. The Choir of Christ Chapel is a 75-voice mixed ensemble in an active and highly integrated choral program. The choir performs fine choral repertoire selected specifically to complement the various liturgies celebrated on campus, including Christmas in Christ Chapel and other major choral events on campus. While students in the choir represent a variety of academic majors and life interests, they share a common passion for choral singing. The choir has been invited to perform multiple times at the Minnesota Music Educator’s Association Midwinter Clinic, performed for the King and Queen of Sweden, and collaborated with internationally renowned choreographer Stephen Koplowitz to present a site-specific performance in celebration of the Sesquicentennial anniversary of the College.

All are welcome, and no audition is necessary. Rehearsals are Monday & Thursday from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. The ensemble is under the direction of Samuel Grace.

The lucia singers

The St. Lucia Singers is a 50-voice ensemble of soprano and alto singers that performs distinct choral repertoire from across all historical periods. The choir maintains an active performance schedule, including participation in the annual production of Christmas in Christ Chapel, the Family Weekend worship service, an annual spring concert, and various liturgical services on campus. The choir is named for St. Lucia, one of the earliest Christian martyrs, who was killed by the Romans in 304 because of her religious beliefs. The choir provides music for the annual St. Lucia Festival on campus, which honors the personal virtues of St. Lucia.

Choir membership is by audition. Rehearsals are Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 4:20 PM. The ensemble is under the direction of Brandon Dean.
