Gustavus Symphony Orchestra

The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra (GSO) is the premier, select touring orchestra with entry by audition. GSO features talented and dedicated students from diverse majors, performs a variety of symphonic repertoire, and is a touring ensemble. GSO performs multiple times throughout the academic year, including in Christmas in Christ Chapel. The GSO rehearses Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:20 p.m., with string sectionals from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Gustavus Symphony Orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Justin Knoepfel. Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra

The Gustavus Philharmonic Orchestra (GPO) is a chamber string ensemble which occasionally adds winds, brass, and percussion, depending on the piece. Members of GPO are admitted by audition at the beginning of the academic year. The GPO gives two to three concerts a year: one in the Fall, and one or two in the Spring. In addition, the orchestra also performs on campus during morning Chapel and Sunday services at Christ Chapel. GPO rehearses Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:15 pm and is under the direction of Karin Dye.
