Gustavus welcomes Zambian writer and scholar Mubanga Kalimamukwento who will give a public talk titled "Storytelling as Intercession." Kalimamukwento's debut novel The Mourning Bird is about a girl facing homelessness amid the AIDs crisis in Lusaka, Zambia. Her most recent publication is a collection of short stories titled Obligations to the Wounded. Among other honors, she is the winner of the Drue Heinz Literature Prize (2024). In addition to being a writer, Kalimamukwento is a lawyer and activist. She is working on a Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota in Women's and Gender Studies on the relationship between Christianity, the law, and women living with HIV/AIDs.
