Description

Participate in the Indigenous Peoples' Day events scheduled on Monday, October 14, 2024:

Indigenous Peoples' Day Smudging Ceremony on Monday, October 14, 2024, at 8:50 a.m. Meet at Three Flags and our group will walk down the hill to the new Telescope area.  At 9 a.m., Joe Whitehawk, Dakota Elder-in-Residence, will lead us in this sacred Indigenous cultural practice that involves burning sacred herbs to cleanse and connect with the spirit and Creator.  The purpose of this ritual is to cleanse, purify, and bless the earth, as well as heal, protect and restore balance. Everyone is welcome.

Indigenous Peoples' Day Film Screening: Dakota 38+2 Wokiksuye Horse Ride: On Monday, October 14, 2024, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., the film will be shown in Wallenberg Auditorium, 2220 Nobel Hall of Science and is a free event. This compelling documentary tells the story of the Dakota 38 + 2 Wokiksuye Horse Ride from a dream that Jim Miller, The Dreamer, had in 2005.  This is a spiritual ride that starts at Lower Brule reservation in South Dakota, bringing together Native and non-native riders from all over Turtle Island (North America) to ride horseback over 330 miles, arriving at Reconciliation Park in Mankato on December 26 at 10 a.m.  Riders are in ceremony ... (there's quite a bit more!)
