Description

During the spring semester, the Student Life Division will be focusing on SYSTEMIC RACISM as one of the “Great Challenges” of our time. Through Gustavus' five core values, we will engage in events and conversations, so we can better understand how to change the trajectory of systemic racism both individually and within our community.

Our first event will explore the intersection of systemic racism and its impact on our community. Not only here at Gustavus, but within our state. As part of this virtual event we ask that you watch a short PBS documentary. The PBS special is a discovered tape of a speech and interview given by Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., at the University of Minnesota in 1967.

After we will be hosting virtual breakout sessions to discuss and reflect on the documentary.  We will discuss what has changed since 1967 in Minnesota, what hasn’t and how we can move forward.
