Women’s Golf Finishes Sixth At NCAA Championships, Kosak Finishes Tied For Sixth Individually

The Gustavus women’s golf team posted a solid final round score of 316 (+28) to finish sixth at the NCAA Championships out of 20 teams. The 72-hole tournament, was played at Centennial Oaks Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa. The Gusties made up 13 strokes to move up two places and finish one stroke ahead of St. Thomas. Junior Kimbra Kosak (Grand Rapids, Minn.) wrapped up a very strong tournament with a final round score of 75 (+3). Kosak finished tied for sixth overall (out of 109) with a 72-hole total of 80-76-72-75—303, setting a new 72-hole school-record. Kosak set the previous mark of 314 at the 2007 NCAA Championships where she finished fifth overall.

Methodist University won the team title for the eleventh consecutive year. The Monarchs posted a 72-hole total of 307-309-299-304—1219. DePauw University placed second for the second consecutive year at 315-320-310-313—1258.

Rachel Roberg (Sr., Rice Lake, Wis.), who tied for 35th last year, improved to 25th place in 2008 with a four-round score of 79-76-81-81—317. Other finishes for the Gusties included Katie Schenfeld (Fy., Indianola, Iowa), who tied for 60th with a total of 79-87-85-79—330, Amanda Johnson (So., Bemidji, Minn.), who tied for 82nd with a total of 85-84-86-83—338, and Kali Griggs (So., Burnsville, Minn.), who finished 84th with a total of 85-89-84-81—339.
