Gustavus Softball Team To Be Featured on NCAA Spring Championship Show On CBS This Saturday

Gusties after claiming their third place trophy at the NCAA Championship.

The Gustavus softball team will be featured on the NCAA Spring Championship Show, which will air this Saturday, July 4 at 1 pm (Central Time) on CBS Television (which is WCCO or KEYC in southern Minnesota). The Gusties made an impressive run in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament finishing third, which is the best finish in the program's history. Coach Jeff Annis and his squad, the MIAC regular season champions at 21-1, finished with an overall mark of 42-9.

Click, a NFCA All-American and MIAC Player of the Year, helped the softball team to a third place finish at the NCAA Championships, while Kosak, the MIAC Senior Player of the Year, helped the golf team to a third place finish at the NCAA Championships.

    The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and Learfield Sports have announced the final totals for the 2008-09 Directors' Cup and Gustavus finished 8th out of 435 competing NCAA Division III institutions. The Gusties placed in the Top 10 for the fifth time in the past eight years and in the Top 25 for the 13th time in the 14-year history of the NACDA Directors' Cup.

    Gustavus Adolphus College junior women's hockey player Melissa Mackley and senior women's golfer Kimbra Kosak have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's At-Large Team as released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Mackley, a College Division First Team selection, and Kosak, a College Division Second Team selection, are the fifth and sixth Gustavus student-athletes to be named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans this year.

    Gustavus Adolphus College senior swimmer and junior hockey player David Martinson have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team as released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Pearson, a College Division First Team selection, and Martinson, a College Division Third Team selection, are the third and fourth Gustavus student-athletes to be named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans this year.

    Gustavus senior shortstop Rachael Click has been selected to the First Team of the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America softball squad. This is the third consecutive year that Click has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America and second consecutive year she has been a first team selection. Click, the MIAC Player of the Year and a NFCA Second Team All-America honoree, maintains a 3.91 gpa with a major in elementary education.

    Gustavus Adolphus College senior men's tennis players John Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) and Mike Burdakin (Sr., Bettendorf, Iowa) saw their seasons come to an end after losses in singles and doubles at the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships in Claremont, Calif. Kauss fell in the semifinal round of singles play, while Burdakin and Kauss bowed out of the doubles draw in the quarterfinals.

    Senior Tyler Geyen finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and the 4x400 meter relay team placed fifth at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Marietta, Ohio on Saturday. Geyen crossed the finish line with a time of 14.53 seconds, while the 4x400 meter relay team clocked a time of 3:12.72. The Gusties finished the meet tied for 36th place with nine points from both performances.
  • Junior Kaelene LundstrumWomen's Track And Field Finishes Strong On Final Day To Earn Sixth Place At NCAA Championships
    The Gustavus women's track and field team used three top-eight results to finish a program-best sixth place with 27 points on the final day of the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Marietta, Ohio. Wartburg College won the team title with 52 points. Kaelene Lundstrum (Jr., Bird Island, Minn.) and Sam Broderius (So., Hector, Minn.) finished second in the high jump and seventh in the shot put, respectively, while the 4x400 meter relay placed eighth.
