Gustavus Announces Finale of Senior Recitals This Weekend

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College will present the final weekend of senior recitals this weekend in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the campus. Clarinetist Rachel Braband is scheduled to present her recital at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. Kathryn Patterson, French horn, will open her recital at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 17, followed by vocalist/pianist Samuel Eckberg at 3:30. All three events are free and open to the public.

Rachel Braband is a native of Lombard, Illinois, and a music performance major at Gustavus. A student of Richard Weber, Rachel is a member of the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, Gustavus Wind Orchestra and the Gustavus Woodwind Ensembles. She will be accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt. Following graduation later this month, she will continue her studies toward a master of music in performance at Northern Illinois University.

Kathryn Patterson is a senior music major from Monroe, Wisconsin, and a 2004 graduate of Monroe High School. At Gustavus, she is a student of Matt Wilson and a member of the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra and the Gustavus Wind Orchestra.

Samuel Eckberg, a native of rural Gaylord, Minnesota, is a senior music education major. He is a student of Michael Jorgensen, accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt and assisted by Alyssa Hansen and Brian Fahey. Sam is a member of the Gustavus Choir, the St. Ansgar’s Chorus and a long-time accompanist of the Lucia Singers Women’s Chorus. Following graduation, he will be completing his student teaching and begin looking for a teaching position.

These three solo recitals are free and open to the public.
