Wednesday, April 23, 2008 (3 weeks ago)

Dr. Paul Nulsen from the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics will deliver a lecture at Gustavus Adolphus College at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24 in room 103 of F.W. Olin Hall for Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science.

Nulsen’s free public lecture is titled “The Cosmic Symphony: How Black Holes Orchestrate Galaxies,” and is sponsored by the Physics Department and the Society of Physics Students.

Nulsen’s lecture will explain how astronomers have used observations from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Satellite to decipher how massive black holes play an important role in galaxy formation.

Educated at the University of Western Australia and the University of Cambridge, Nulsen served as a senior lecturer at the University of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia from 1989 to 2003 before joining the Center for Astrophysics.
