The Gustavus women’s tennis team remained perfect in MIAC play with a pair of 9-0 wins over the College of St. Catherine on Saturday in St. Paul and the College of Saint Benedict on Sunday in St. Joseph. The Gusties also picked up a non-conference 6-3 win over Wartburg College in St. Peter on Saturday. Gustavus, which improved to 16-8 overall and 6-0 in conference play, will face three MIAC opponents this week, including league-unbeaten St. Thomas.

Gustavus earned two victories over Wartburg and St. Catherine on Saturday with a split squad. The Gusties started the day by winning two doubles points against Wartburg. Christine Reimer and Marianne Barau defeated Molly Eslick and Emily Heying 6-3, 6-3 at #1 doubles, while Brittany Templin and Julie Bardenwerper defeated Amanda Barkema and Mirela Bacevac 8-0 at #2 doubles. The Gusties then won four of the six singles matches in straight sets with wins coming from Brittany Templin (#2), Julie Bardenwerper (#3), Marianne Barau (#4), and Alison Utke (#6).

Coach Heidi Carlson and the Gusties defeated St. Catherine without dropping a set. Gustavus won all three doubles matches as Jenni White and Sierra Krebsbach defeated Jenna Olson and Susie Hallquist 8-1 at #1 doubles. Ali O’Neal and Sam Frank defeated Jamie Weber and Mratha Ginder by a score of 8-2 in the #2 doubles position, as Erica Dobson and Jenny Arnfelt won at #3 doubles over Kasie Rust and Abby Beytein-Carlson 8-3. The Gusties won each singles match by straight sets.

Gustavus completed the weekend sweep by defeating Saint Benedict 9-0 on Sunday. The Gusties claimed straight set victories in doubles play, as Erica Dobson and Brittany Templin recorded the closest decision, 8-6, at #3 doubles over Laura Wermager and Beth Yokiel. Christine Reimer dropped the first set against Laura Wermager, but fought back to win the second set 6-2 and the third-set tiebreaker 10-8 at #5 singles.

The Gusties will travel to St. Paul to face Hamline on Friday at 4 p.m. before hosting Saint Mary’s and St. Thomas on Saturday at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter.
