About the Friends of Music
The Gustavus Friends of Music is a network of alumni, parents, and friends who seek to make a difference in the lives of student-musicians at Gustavus, to create opportunities, to open new doors.
Our Mission
The Gustavus Friends of Music was born from the vision of creating opportunities to inspire musicians at Gustavus to seek their potential and explore their dreams. And perhaps, to dream new dreams.
Our Goals
The goals of the Friends of Music are:
- to provide funding for the Jussi Björling Music Scholarships, which are awarded to music students with extraordinary talent and potential for success;
- to underwrite ensemble tours that complement each musician's course of study and strengthen Gustavus' visibility in the larger community; and
- to lay the foundation for continued success and future growth of the Department of Music.
At Gustavus, the gift of music is multiplied. Music at Gustavus, in the form of coursework and performances, becomes Music from Gustavus—those professors, conductors, performers, and others who have music-related vocations or avocations and who do so much to enrich their communities everywhere.
How You Can Help
By becoming a Friend of Music, you can help provide a music scholarship to someone who may not otherwise be able to afford the cost of a Gustavus education. You can be a part of making concert tours an even greater musical, educational, and personal experience for the ensemble members and the people they reach. You can help advance the reputation of excellence that defines the Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College.
