Vice President for Equity and Inclusion in Equity and Inclusion

Doug Thompson serves as the inaugural Vice President for Equity and Inclusion at Gustavus Adolphus College. He joined Gustavus after serving as associate dean of students for the Dougherty Family College at the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota).

Thompson has over 17 years of experience in higher education administration in areas such as academic advising, student affairs, enrollment management, and diversity and inclusion. He is a member of the National Association for Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE) and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA).

He earned his B.A. in Marketing from Southeastern Louisiana University, M.A. in Strategic Communication and Leadership from Seton Hall University, and Ph.D. in Leadership for the Advancement of Learning and Service from Cardinal Stritch University.

Thompson is a Certified Diversity Executive who focuses strategically on change as well as creating a more inclusive campus environment. Thompson’s role involves oversight of all aspects of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and ensures that efforts are linked to organizational goals.
