Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time, one-year position of Visiting Instructor (or Assistant Professor with appropriate qualifications) in the Department of Environment, Geography, and Earth Sciences to begin August 15, 2025.
Applicants must have current authorization to work in the United States. Gustavus will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.

Prerequisites
What’s required:
- ABD in geoscience or related field (PhD preferred)
- Ability to teach courses in Earth Materials/Mineralogy and Introductory Geoscience
What’s preferred:
- Evidence of effectiveness in teaching
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate students
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities
- Experience teaching introductory GIS using ArcGIS Pro
- Ability to teach a 300-level course in Structural Geology or Tectonics
Things you will do:
- Teach 25 contact hours (6.25 course equivalents) over the academic year. Likely, 12 CH in the Fall and 13 CH in the Spring. Two of the sections in Fall and/or Spring may be the same course. Primary teaching responsibilities will ideally include: 1) lecture and lab courses in introductory geology, to a general education audience; 2) a 200-level course in Earth Materials/Mineralogy, to an audience of mainly geology students; and 3) a 200-level Fundamentals of GIS, to an audience of environmental studies, geography, and geology students.

Based on data from AAUP (American Association of University Professors) and CUPA (College and University Professional Association), we offer a competitive starting salary range of $47,170 to $53,400 for a 9-month academic year. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience, training, certifications/licensure, market factors, departmental budgets, and responsibility.
