Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Science to begin August 15, 2025. Candidates with specialties in any areas of developmental psychology are welcome to apply and will be given full consideration.

Department Information: The Department of Psychological Science is committed to promoting psychology as a science both for the sake of gaining understanding and for the applications that may emerge as a consequence. Our departmental developmental lab space, research equipment and facilities allow for work with participants across the lifespan. We also work with the Gustavus Center for Inclusive Excellence and other college constituencies to promote equity and inclusivity in our department and on campus. Prerequisites
RequiredQualifications:
- PhD in Psychology or related field; we will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status and who will complete their degree by September 30, 2025
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching
- Evidence of research accomplishments
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities
- Stated willingness to teach Developmental Psychology (Lifespan) as well as core department courses such as Introductory Psychology, Statistics, and Research Methods
PreferredQualifications:
- Experience teaching undergraduate courses and knowledge of evidence-based pedagogy
- Pedagogical methods that foster equity and inclusion in a classroom setting
- Experience engaging in research collaboration with undergraduates
- Commitment to a liberal arts education
Things you will do:
Gustavus faculty teach, advise, conduct research, and serve the college and department.
- Teach a 6-course equivalent each academic year. In their first year, the successful candidate will receive a reduced teaching assignment of five courses, plus one fully-compensated course release. Primary teaching responsibilities will include Developmental Psychology (Lifespan) and courses in the successful candidate’s individual specialization. In addition, the candidate will be called on to teach core courses for the major such as Introductory Psychology, Statistics, and Research Methods.

- Improve your teaching by joining a teaching circle, participating in workshops, applying for an internal teaching development grant, and engaging in conversations about teaching with colleagues across campus.
- Advance your scholarship by working with undergraduate research assistants, joining a writing retreat, applying for an internal grant, receiving travel funds to present at conferences, receiving help applying for external grants, and making use of our research facilities.
- Develop professional skills by participating in faculty meetings and committees, attending faculty development days, and taking advantage of the College’s membership to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD).
