Description
Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for two full-time positions of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Science to begin September 1, 2023. These are one-year appointments; however the department anticipates continued vacancies, and the successful candidate(s) may be considered for reappointment, contingent upon favorable evaluation and the continuing needs of the College.

Things you will do:
- Teach 7 course sections each academic year. Typically, 3 in the Fall, 1 in January, and 3 in the Spring. Two of the sections in Fall and/or Spring may be the same course.
- Primary teaching responsibilities for the developmental applicant are child development and may include courses in general psychology, statistics and/or research methods and the candidate’s specialty.
- Primary teaching responsibilities for the experimental applicant are courses in general psychology, statistics and/or research methods and in the candidate’s specialty.
- Help cultivate a welcoming community where everyone feels a sense of belonging. We strive to foster an environment where people can be themselves, build community, learn, and grow.

- Improve your teaching by joining a teaching circle, participating in workshops, applying for an internal teaching development grant, and engaging in conversations about teaching with colleagues across campus.
- Advance your scholarship by working with undergraduate research assistants, joining a writing retreat, applying for an internal grant, receiving travel funds to present at conferences, receiving help applying for external grants, and making use of our research facilities.
- Develop professional skills by participating in faculty meetings and committees, attending faculty development days, and taking advantage of the College’s membership to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD).

Prerequisites
What’s required:
- PhD in Psychology; we will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status and who will complete their degree by September 1, 2023
- Evidence of effectiveness in teaching
What’s preferred:
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate students
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities
- Experience teaching undergraduate courses and knowledge of evidence-based pedagogy
