Description
Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor/Academic Librarian to begin September 1, 2023. Library faculty work during the 9-month academic year (September 1-May 31).
Digital liberal arts is an emerging focus within the Library; the new faculty member will have broad latitude to spearhead a wide range of initiatives across campus and the opportunity to expand campus expertise with digital liberal arts. We seek a strong educator who will develop projects related to digital literacy, digital humanities, and scholarly communication, as well as work closely with the institutional repository. We are looking for new voices to collaboratively transform how we develop student learners.

Department Information: The Folke Bernadotte Memorial Library advances the teaching mission and intellectual life of the College by selecting and facilitating access to information and by instructing in its use, interpretation, and evaluation. The Library is governed through a distinctive collegial management model with a department-elected Library Chair and strong committee structure. Major/Essential Functions: Gustavus faculty teach, advise, conduct research, and serve the college and department. For library faculty, primary responsibilities include teaching instruction sessions in a variety of disciplines and course levels, participating in reference services, collection development, and shared management of the library.
Currently, tenure-line Gustavus faculty have a 6-course equivalent teaching assignment. In their first year, the successful candidate will receive a reduced teaching assignment of five course equivalents, plus one fully-compensated course release.

Prerequisites
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution completed by September 30, 2023
- Second master’s degree (any subject) currently in progress (please indicate anticipated completion date); preference will be given to candidates with an earned second master's degree or those who will be completed by September 30, 2023 (a second master’s degree is required for tenure nomination, usually in the fifth year; candidates without the second master’s degree will be hired at the rank of Instructor)
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital liberal arts tools and trends
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching
- Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate student advising
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of at least one significant digital liberal arts project
- Experience working in an academic library
- Experience teaching in a library setting
- An emerging pattern of professional activity, for example, presentation at conferences, publications, involvement in professional associations, etc.
