Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time and benefits-eligible position as a Continuing Instructor of Computer Science in the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics (MCS) to begin February 1, 2022.

Department Information: The MCS Department is a collegial, interdisciplinary department offering degrees in all three disciplines.

Major/Essential Functions: This position provides teaching and technical support to the MCS department with an emphasis on supporting the computer science offerings within the department. The total assignment for this position is 5 course equivalents (3 equivalents of teaching/2 equivalents of lab coordination and technical support). This position is responsible for coordinating all computer science lab sections, teaching 3 course equivalents per year (generally computer science labs), and maintaining hardware and software in support of the computer science program. In special circumstances, this position may teach lecture sections.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field. Candidates with graduate school experience in computer science or a related discipline and/or related certifications will be considered
  • Prior experience in or knowledge of technical support of computer hardware, software, and/or networks
  • Experience in teaching or tutoring computer science or a related discipline
  • Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate student advising
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using and and/or maintaining computers using a Linux operating system
  • Experience teaching with the Python programming language
