Description

Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time Market Place Supervisor with Dining Service. This position is 40 hours per week for 52 weeks per year, Monday-Friday and weekends on rotation. This position has a rotating shift of 5:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

The position is responsible for supervising the day to day operation of the Dining Service.  Works as a part of the Dining Service Management Team. This is an entry level management position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the day-to-day operation of the Market Place, Kitchen, and Courtyard Cafe area.  
  • Acts as manager on duty accepting sole responsibility for all aspects of dining service operations in the absence of the Asst. Director of Operations.
  • Assists in training, evaluation and discipline of regular and student employees with support of the Asst. Director of Operations and the Dining Service Office Manager.
  • Ensures that service, sanitation, and food products meet quality standards.
  • Acts as communication link between Dining Service Staff and Dining customers and Asst. Director Operations. 
  • Participates in planning meetings with Department Personnel and other Supervisory Staff.
  • Responds to and accepts customer feedback/concerns as received.
  • Fills in as Dining Service Supervisor in the Catering/Concessions areas as requested.
  • Coordinates scheduled and emergency maintenance with service/production schedules and communicates such to Dining Service Staff.
  • Works as part of the Dining Service Management Team participating in decision-making for dining service operations.
  • Contributes input in scheduling of full-time, part-time, and student staff.
  • Positive Role Model for all Dining Service Staff.
  • Works through the personnel of the unit to accomplish departmental goals and obligations.
  • Adheres to uniform and appearance expectations as established by Asst. Director of Operations.
  • Maintains professional service standards as established by the Asst. Director of Operations.
  • Focused sole employment duties in the Dining Service. No shared or split on-campus work obligations among departments.
  • Organize workflow and ensure employees understand their duties or delegated tasks.
  • Provide constructive feedback, coaching and training for all employees.
  • Understand personnel policies, procedures, and confidential information.
  • Prepare and perform performance reviews.
  • Acts as a professional manner and provides leadership to all Dining Service Staff.
  • Must work well within a team environment.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Prerequisites

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Two years Dining Service management/supervisory experience.
  • Must be a Certified Food Manager.
  • Basic Math skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Volume food production and service knowledge through relevant experience.
  • Ability to work flexible hours beyond 40 hours/week and weekends.
  • Dependable, positive reinforcer, self motivated and directed.
  • Dedicated to service of Gustavus Community.
  • Possession of valid driver's license (class C).
  • Operation of Dining Service/College transport vehicles
  • Extended periods of standing and walking
  • Ability to lift up to 50# 

Work Environment: 

  • Foodservice equipment and machinery
  • Physical Dining Service environment on campus
  • Off-premise catering locations as required
