Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a part-time (3 course) one year position of Visiting Instructor (or Assistant Professor with appropriate qualifications) in the Department of Geology to begin September 1, 2019.

The Gustavus Department of Geology graduates approximately 8 majors each year and additionally serves substantial numbers of students in Environmental Studies and Geography programs. The Department prepares students for graduate programs and for employment in geoscience-related professions. Students are engaged in research experiences both within and outside of classes.

Major/Essential Functions: The teaching assignment will be just over three course equivalents. Primary teaching responsibilities will include introductory environmental geochemistry labs (fall), a 200-level historical geology lab (spring) and two half-semester naturalist courses (first half of fall and second half of spring).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in geology or a related field (PhD or ABD preferred);
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching;
  • A commitment to undergraduate teaching and student advising; and
  •  Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • We are interested in applicants who have teaching experience in similar courses.
