B.A. Gustavus Adolphus College (Religion)
Joe Lencioni ’05 is an artist, web developer, designer, and photographer with a talent for eliciting the best from his subjects. His work is often whimsical, thought-provoking, or downright unusual, but always thoroughly fantastic.
At Gustavus, Joe studied religion, focusing on Buddhism and inter-religious dialogue. His thesis, titled "Total Kenosis, True Shunyata, and the Plerotic Self of Thomas Merton and Abe Masao" received national recognition, earning the Albert Clark Award and publication in the Journal of Theta Alpha Kappa. He graduated summa cum laude in 2005.
Joe has been a member of Web Services since January of 2002. As the Technical Web Coordinator, he designs and builds web-based applications for the campus community. He enjoys crafting elegant and intuitive user interfaces and thinking about things like information architecture and typography. Joe is always looking for ways to use innovative new technologies on the web. His work for Web Services was featured as a prime example of good information architecture in Information Architecture for the World Wide Web, Third Edition (O'Reilly, 2006).
Because he is addicted to creating things, Joe's hobbies tend to be creative in nature. In his spare time, he maintains a photography website called Shifting Pixel where he experiments with a variety of photographic techniques and styles.
