Statement Of Purpose/ Mission
The mission of the Gustavus Athletic Trainers' Association is to promote health care professions, such as athletic training, through educational experiences, wellness activities, community service, and many other events.
Name: Gustavus Athletic Trainers' Association (GATA) Purpose: The purpose of GATA is to bring together athletic training students on campus and provide educational opportunities for our members by hosting speakers, attending state and national conferences, and volunteering at local sporting events. We hope to provide information to members about preparation for a career in athletic training. It is also a way to meet students with similar interests. We hope to provide networking opportunities for all members. Membership: Membership is open to all students who are interested in pursuing a career in athletic training. Members are accepted continually throughout the year so long as they are in good standing with the College. Members are required to attend meetings, but it is encourage that they do so for their own benefit. Members are charged $10 for dues for the academic year. Members are encouraged, but not required to become members of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association, which requires an annual fee. Officers: The following officer positions will exist: President, Vice President, Treasurers (2), Secretary and Event Coordinators (2), and Sophomore representative. All officers must be full-time students. President and Vice President will share the following duties: organize and preside over meetings, function as a spokesperson for the organization, facilitate leadership among the officers, and plan monthly officer meetings. The president must be a senior student. Vice president will be a junior or senior student The treasurers will be a junior and senior student and will be responsible for maintaining the finances and keeping record of them, as well as collecting dues. They will attend all monthly officer meetings. The secretary will be responsible for keeping minutes at all club meetings and officer meetings. He or she will be a junior or senior student and will be responsible for all correspondence with members and leading advertising/involvement efforts. The secretary will also be in charge of writing letters of thanks to speakers and institutions that assist GATA. The event coordinators will be in charge of planning and delegating tasks related to major social events. Officers will be nominated and voted on by all members present at the Spring semester voting meeting. Officers will serve for the following academic year. Candidates will be elected into office if they receive a majority vote. If no one is nominated, the president can appoint a member to that position. Meetings: Meetings will be held approximately once a month during the academic year. The officers will meet once a month to plan speakers and events. The president is responsible for informing members of meetings. The president and vice president will set the agenda for the meeting with input from officers and members. Members will be given notice of a meeting at least 3 days prior. Amendments: Any member can propose changes to the current constitution. The proposed changes will be reviewed by the officers and presented to the club. At that time, all members can vote to approve/deny amendments. Date of Ratification: August 8, 2012
