Purpose: The purpose of this club is to support Gustavus students who would like to learn how to play badminton no matter what level they are at. We seek to support the learning of the skills related to badminton and the physical exercise that comes as a result. Although not required we encourage members to attend meetings and run for executive office if they would like so that they can grow in their leadership and community building skills as well.
Constitution
Constitution of the Gustavus Adolphus Co-ed Badminton Club Article 1: Name The name of this organization shall be The Gustavus Adolphus Co-ed Badminton Club Article II: Purpose: The purpose of this club is to support Gustavus students who would like to learn how to play badminton no matter what level they are at. We seek to support the learning of the skills related to badminton and the physical exercise that comes as a result. Although not required we encourage members to attend meetings and run for executive office if they would like so that they can grow in their leadership and community building skills as well. Article III: Membership Section 1: Membership in this organization is open to all students who enjoy spending time playing this sport. Section 2: Members are accepted throughout the year so long as they are in good standing with the college academically and behaviorally. Section 3: Members will remain in good standing with the club and as a member so long as they make it to one tournament per semester. Section 4: To become a member a student just needs to contact either the President or Vice President to be added to the email alias. Section 5: Members must sign a statement of responsibility regarding equipment use which will be provided before all play. Article IV: Officer Section 1: The following officer positions shall exist in the Gustavus Adolphus Co-ed Badminton Club: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Risk Manager. All officers must be full-time students in good standing enrolled at Gustavus Adolphus College. The only position that has additional requirements that must be met is the President. They must have held an officer position for a semester before becoming President. If no qualified parties are interested, this requirement may be waived with the majority agreement of the membership present. Section 2: The duties of each office are described as follows: A. President 1. To organize and preside over meetings 2. To function as a spokesperson for the club 3. To facilitate communication between executive board members 4. To work with the advisor and other executive board members to create a yearly community outreach project (Tournament, SNL, etc.) 5. To facilitate monthly Executive board meetings 6. To attend Student Senate finance meetings with the Treasurer B. Vice President 1. To preside over meetings in the absence of the President 2. To exercise the functions of the office of the President in the absence of the president 3. To assist the President in the organization of club events 4. To serve as recruitment chair 5. To attend monthly Executive Board meetings C. Secretary 1. To keep a written record of what happens at all meetings 2. To be responsible for all correspondence 3. To chair public relations efforts 4. To attend monthly Executive Board meetings D. Treasurer 1. To maintain the finances of the club 2. To coordinate any fund raising 3. To report Bi-weekly to the President and Vice President budget updates 4. To attend monthly Executive Board meetings 5. To go to Student Senate finance meetings with the President E. Risk Manager 1. To communicate all health risks ahead of events to the President 2. To be responsible for the distribution of waivers before events involving non-members 3. To meet with the advisor each semester to go over any new safety policies 4. To have knowledge of emergency procedures for the facilities and emergency contact information 5: To attend monthly Executive Board meetings Section 3: Candidates for office must be nominated from the membership of the Gustavus Adolphus Co-ed Badminton Club by the first weekend in December. Nominees must then submit a written application to show why they would like to hold that position and what they would do if they were elected. Elections will be held the weekend before Christmas Break and at the election meeting the nominees will be allowed to give a 3 -5 minute presentation. All members present the day of voting will be allowed to vote if they are in good standing with the club. No absentee voting will be allowed. Candidates will be elected with a majority vote. Ties will result in runoff elections by dropping the lowest candidate and then re-voting. Section 4: The term of office begins on February 15th of the new year. January term will serve as a transition period for new and old officers. The term of office shall last for two full semesters. Any vacancies during mid term shall be announced and voting will take place within two weeks of a resignation. If no one is nominated the President may appoint a member to that position. If the President vacates the post and no one is nominated the Vice President may choose to assume the position and appoint his/her own replacement or may choose to appoint someone to the Presidency. Section 5: The Gustavus Adolphus Co-ed Badminton Club, by a four-fifths (⅘) vote of all members present, may remove on good cause, an executive board member from office. A request for removal from office will be brought to the Advisor or President who will then bring the request before the membership at the next scheduled meeting. Article V: Meetings Section 1: Meetings will be held twice a semester. The Executive Board will meet at the beginning of each semester to set meeting dates. The Secretary is responsible for informing members of meetings. The President will set the agenda for the meetings with input from all members and Executive Board members. Section 2: Decision are made by voting brought to the floor by a motion and a second. A majority shall allow the vote to pass. Section 3: The President or Advisor has the ability to call special meetings if necessary. 3 business days notice must be given before any special meetings. Article VI: Executive Board Section 1: The Executive Board shall be comprised of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Risk Manager. Section 2: The executive board shall meet once a month to discuss the planning of club events. At the board’s first meeting of each semester, they shall set the dates for all Club meetings. Article VII: Finances Section 1: The majority of funds of the organization shall be requested through Student Senate. Section 2: Funds will also be collected through a five dollar ($5) semester due to help cover the cost of extra equipment. Section 3: Upon dissolution of the Gustavus Adolphus Co-ed Badminton Club, any financial assets will be credited to the Gustavus Student Senate. Article VII: By-Laws Section 1: By-laws may be established by club members and reviewed each September. Any member in good standing can propose the by-laws. They will be prepared for voting by the Executive Board members and submitted to members in writing prior to the meeting where voting is to take place. Section 2: All members in good standing are eligible to vote, but must be present at the meeting to do so. A majority vote is needed to allow the by-law to pass. The member who proposed the by-law must be in attendance as well. Article IX: Amendments Section 1: All members of the Gustavus Adolphus Co-ed Badminton Club that are in good standing may propose amendments. The proposed amendments will be reviewed by the Executive Board members and submitted to members in writing at least 2 weeks before voting is to take place. Section 2: All members in good standing are eligible to vote, but must be present at the meeting to do so. A two-thirds (⅔) majority is needed to allow the amendment to pass. Section 3: The individual who proposed the amendment must be in attendance before the vote may take place. Section 4: If amendments are passed they take effect at the end of the meeting during which they are passed.
