The Provost's Office provides analytic support to academic departments and programs to facilitate evidence-based planning and informed decisions that help them achieve their goals and the College's mission.

Resources

Department Chairs and Program Directors have access to the following resources. If you are not in one of these positions but need access to fulfill the responsibilities of your assigned role at the College, please submit a request to g-ida@gustavus.edu

Graduated Students

  • Majors - Shows number of students that graduated each year with the selected major(s). Includes comparisons to other majors at the College.
  • Minors - Shows number of students that graduate each year with the selected minor(s). Includes comparisons to other minors at the College.

Current Students

  • Majors - Shows list of students that are working to fulfill the requirements of the selected major. Provides a count by year in credit as well.
  • Major Courses - Shows the courses taken by your current majors. Defaults to current semester with the option to show all semesters, including the upcoming.
  • Minors - Shows list of students that are working to fulfill the requirements of the selected minor. Provides a count by year in credit as well.
  • Advisees - Shows the current count of advisees for all faculty members in the selected department and the names of the current advisees for a selected faculty member.
  • Advisee Courses - Shows the courses taken by your current advisees. Defaults to current semester with the option to show all semesters, including the upcoming.
  • Student Recruiter - Shows students that have taken courses from a selected department/program but have not declared any major or certain majors. Can be used to identify students that might be good candidates to recruit for your major/minor.

Courses

  • Rosters - Shows the students who took or are taking a course, their email address, year in credit at the time of the course, and their current programs and advisor(s). 
  • Department Schedules - Shows the course names, instructor, meeting days, time, & location, and general education designations for a selected department. Includes a plot showing course scheduling grid use for chosen semester.
  • Faculty Schedules - Shows the course names, meeting days, time, & location, and general education designations for a selected instructor.
  • General Education Contributions - Shows the number of sections offered, the number of students enrolled, or the course capacity for courses for the selected department and desginations (e.g., HBSI, WRITL, JAN) . A comparison to other departments on campus is also shown.

Course Planning

  • Generate Class Days - Shows the days and dates for a course after an instructor enters start date, end date, and meeting days. 
  • Course Need Estimator - Shows how many students with the major(s) and/or minor(s) have not yet taken the selected courses.
  • Designation Need Estimates - Shows the number of credits that are needed for Challenge curriculum students to meet the general and Challenge curriculum requirements.

Proposed Course Schedules

  • Proposed Department Schedules - Shows the courses with their days and times that have been submitted by Department chairs for the upcoming semester (updated daily).
  • Proposed Interdisciplinary Courses - Shows the courses with their days and times that have been submitted by Deparment chairs for the upcoming semester and that contribute to IDPs (updated daily).

GusData Explorer

GusData Explorer can be used to explore college and department data, including enrollment, majors, graduates, advisees, and general education contributions. You can choose different time ranges and course selections. Tutorials are available at https://sites.google.com/gustavus.edu/gusdata.

Custom Reports

You may also have data needs for a specific situation. For example, HES might want to know what LAP students still need to complete FIT/ACT credits or grant writing group may need first-year retention rates for a particular subset of students. For these needs, custom reports can be created. Please submit your request and our office will set up a time to talk more about your project and how we can help.

  • 2022-05-18 Added new resource, Eligible to Graduate, that shows students in courses that are eligible to graduate in upcoming commencement.
  • 2022-05-02 Updated tables in Current Students and Courses to allow user sorting and filtering.
