Bill Braunger started working with the Gustavus Track and Field program in 2006. Braunger will begin his third year as the sprint and hurdle coach after working with jumps, hurdles, and multi-events in the past.
A St. Peter, Minn. native, Braunger came to Gustavus after 13 years as the head track and field coach at St. Clair High School. Prior to that he was the head coach at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton High School as well as an assistant coach at St. Peter HS, Mankato East HS, and LeCenter-Cleveland HS. While at St. Clair, Braunger worked with 11 State qualifiers and was named 2003 Section 2A Coach of the Year. He served as the Academic All-State Chair for the state of Minnesota from 2003 until 2011.
During his time at Gustavus, Braunger has worked with All-America multi-event performers Janey Helland and Kaelene Lundstrum, All-America hurdlers Tyler Geyen and Tanner Miest, and three 4x400 relay teams that have participated at the NCAA Championships.
A 1985 graduate of Minnesota State, Mankato with a major in physical education and elementary education, Braunger was a four-year member of the MSU Track and Field team. He received his masters degree in physical education from MSU, Mankato in 1995.
Braunger is employed full-time as a physical education teacher in St. Clair, Minn., where he has worked since 1995. Bill and his wife, Kim live in St. Peter with their children Kendra and Christian.
