Syrah Sherwood

Admission Counselor in Admission

Syrah (pronounced, "see-rah") is thrilled to be joining the Admission team at Gustavus! Originally a Twin Cities native, Syrah graduated from Point Park University out in Pittsburgh, PA with a degree in Theater Arts in 2017. Outside of her college theater courses, Syrah was heavily involved in residence life and student affairs on campus, and loved working as a campus tour guide with the Admissions Office!

After graduating from Point Park, Syrah excitedly returned to the Twin Cities and spent two years serving as an AmeriCorps member with a St. Paul-based nonprofit, College Possible, an organization that strives to make the path to higher education more accessible and equitable for students of low-income backgrounds. During her time with College Possible, Syrah got the chance to support both high school and college aged students, and developed a passion for promoting equitable college access, building relationships with students, and supporting students on their journey toward earning a college degree.

Syrah firmly believes that our communities are stronger when everyone has a seat at the table, and proudly advocates for diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion in all spaces. She is excited to join the Gustavus community and is so grateful to work for a college whose core values so closely align with her own.

Syrah currently lives in St. Paul. Outside of work, she loves being outside (when the temps are above freezing...), going rock climbing, listening to music or podcasts on her drive to and from campus each day, spending time with her two younger siblings and her dog, Mojo, and re-watching The Office, Parks and Rec, or Gilmore Girls on Netflix for the 10th time.

Syrah is so looking forward to getting to know you, having you on campus, and supporting you as you take your next steps on your journey to college!
