Emily Thayer ’11
Alumni and Administrator
Originally from Wisconsin, Emily studied Political Science, Communication Studies, and History at Gustavus. As a student she tried just about everything from sports to theater, culture clubs to Student Senate, community service to Greek life, provided admission tours and held a few leadership positions along the way. Emily’s involvement as a Gustie allowed her to make amazing connections and improve the community by starting a student organization, serving as Student Senate Co-President, studying abroad (in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji!), collecting food for the local food shelf, volunteering with Special Olympics, completing research, and doing internships with a private law firm and the Gustavus Admission Office.
Following graduation, Emily began work as an Admission Counselor for Gustavus. In the Admission Office she is coordinator of the Fly-In Program, Summer Visit Events, and Forensic Scholarship (also serving as a liaison for the Forensics team). Outside the office, her professional and volunteer service activities include: Reading In Common Selection Committee, New Student Orientation Facilitator, Theta Xi Gamma Advisor, Mentorship Program, Interfaith Advisory Panel, Diversity Education Exploration Project Trip Advisor, and Gustavus Class Officer. Emily is thrilled to be working for her alma mater because “Professors and staff here truly care about students and one another, often going out of their way to interact with you. Students are pushed to examine themselves; analyze beliefs, passions, and understanding of the world as a global community. I’ve witnessed the campus and community rally together in an un-paralleled manner.”
In her spare time, Emily enjoys water sports, playing ukulele, and coaching club gymnastics.
