Assistant Baseball Coach in Athletics

Chad Atherton is in his fourth season on the Gustavus baseball coaching staff. Atherton currently teaches sixth grade at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, a position he has held for 17 years. 

Atherton is a 1995 graduate of Winona State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Chad later went on to earn his masters degree in class instruction from Concordia University (MN) in 2009. 

A 1991 grad of Waterville-Elysian-Morristown High School, Atherton served as the head coach of the W-E-M baseball program for 13 seasons (1998-2010). During his tenure at the head of the Buccaneer baseball team, Atherton compiled an overall mark of 169-126-1 and a conference record of 110-55-1, winning three conference titles and seven runner-up finishes.

A native of Elysian, Chad lives in Waterville with his four children, Addie, Griffin, Alayna, and Gavin.
