Sal y Luz in the Gustavus Adolphus Community

READ ON: YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE!

Thank you for visiting the Sal y Luz project website here at Gustavus Adolphus College. Through this partnership, along with six other communities of faith in Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota, we seek to inform a wide audience in the United States, in particular in the Minnesotan community, concerning the Peace Sanctuary Churches. Through nonviolence, these churches seek to pursue peace, feed the hungry, shelter the displaced, establish new economies, and open dialogues to reconcile relationships. While Guerillas and Paramilitary alike continue to fight one another, imprisoning Colombians within their own borders as many are forced to flee from their homes, it is the astonishing effort, and success, of these churches that will return peace to Colombia.

Why should inquisitive visitors such as yourself emerse yourself in our presentation of key facts and processes ongoing in Colombia? Every person counts. Every life saved by a single phone call from an American citizen is priceless! The United States has supplied over Two Billion dollars in aid to the Colombian government and, as a result, the government is prepared to wage all out offensives against both Guerillas and Paramilitaries. Nevertheless, this continuing violence fails to protect Colombians, stop drug trafficking, or end the clash between insurgency and counterinsurgency groups. By reestablishing the United States' regulations against military arms and aid being used to battle Guerilla groups and, more importantly, to reprioritize our funding to reestablishing a stable economy, provide humanitarian aid for those displaced, and to peacefully settle the conflict that is destroying homes and families daily.
