Gustavus Adolphus College Professor
Authors Swedish History Book

ST. PETER, Minn. (Nov. 25, 2002) – Byron Nordstrom, professor of history and Scandinavian studies at Gustavus Adolphus College, recently wrote a book, titled The History of Sweden. Published in 2002 by Greenwood Press, the book is part of “The Greenwood History of Modern Nations” series and is now available at the college’s Book Mark, located in the C. Charles Jackson Campus Center.

Considered the most up-to-date general history of Sweden available, this non-fiction publication shows how the country evolved from a European monarchial system to the democratic society it is today. The book begins with an introduction to Sweden’s geography, people, and government, and then examines the political and cultural history of the country. A biographical section is also included, with profiles of more than 50 noteworthy Swedes.

Nordstrom has also authored Dictionary of Scandinavian History (Greenwood, 1986) and Scandinavia Since 1500 (University of Minnesota Press, 2000).
