Matt Broschard

Matt Broschard

Matt Broschard is a senior Psychological Science Honors and Biology double major with a Neuroscience minor from Eden Prairie, MN. Awarded the Bjorling Music Scholarship and Gustavus Music Award, he has continued to pursue music at Gustavus Adolphus College under the instruction of Paul Hill. Matt is currently President and Percussion section leader of the Gustavus Wind Orchestra. Additionally, he has participated in the following ensembles throughout his Gustavus career: Percussion Ensemble, Vasa Wind Orchestra, Jazz Combos, Handbell Choir, Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, and Adolphus Jazz Ensemble. Matt will attend graduate school at the University of Iowa to pursue a career in Behavioral Neuroscience to study the neurobiology of learning and memory.

 

Kendra Frey

Kendra FreyKendra Frey is a senior Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Chemistry double major from Fairbanks, Alaska. She began playing the violin when she was four years old, and she continues to play at Gustavus as the Concertmaster of the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra. Kendra also plays in the Corda String Quartet and the Duke Jazz Combo, and she studies privately with Jill Olson-Moser. In addition to receiving a Bjorling Music Scholarship and a President's Scholarship, Kendra is also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, Dobro Slovo National Slavic Honor Society, and Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society. This is Kendra's second performance as a winner of the Gustavus Symphony Concerto/Aria Competition, and she also won the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2003, 2010, and 2011. In 2011, Kendra was also selected as the Concertmaster for the NAfME National High School Honor Orchestra, which performed at the Kennedy Center. This fall, Kendra will begin medical school at the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. Kendra would like to thank everyone in the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra for their support over the last four years.

 

Lauren Makey

Lauren Makey

Lauren Makey is a senior mathematics and biology major from Baxter, Minnesota.  At Gustavus, she has been a member of the Gustavus Wind Orchestra, the Gustavus Jazz Lab Band, and the Gustavus Saxophone Quartet.  Lauren is a President’s and Björling Scholar, and studies saxophone privately with John Engebretson.  After graduation, Lauren plans to take a year off to work and spend time with family.  She hopes to pursue graduate school in biostatistics the following year.
