Hiring 101 Supervisor Training – Intellectual Well-Being

Are you a hiring manager or supervisor of students or staff? Do you lead others? Please join us to learn about human resources best practices and upcoming changes to our hiring process, including the launch of a new employee orientation pilot.

Courageous Conversations – Emotional Well-Being

Relationships fill our lives and require the investment of time and care, especially when conflicts arise. A courageous conversation is an effective tool that you can use to resolve relational conflicts in the workplace. Most people don’t feel comfortable talking about their needs and concerns because they fear conflict and discomfort. A courageous conversation can create an atmosphere of patient listening that blends the elements of mercy and truth, thus facilitating deeper communication. This class will help resolve concerns and help you prepare for difficult conversations, which will ultimately lead to more personal and professional happiness.

Here’s Where We Start: Cultural Definition Exercise – Relational Well-Being

Please join us for an exciting opportunity in which you will help shape the future of Gustavus by defining the employee culture that makes us an employer of choice. The purpose of this session is to gather your feedback through focus groups in which employees will respond to the following questions:

  • Describe when you felt valued as an employee, either at Gustavus or somewhere else?
  • What would the culture of the college look like for you to feel fully engaged as an employee?
  • What expectations do you have of your peers?
  • What expectations do you have of our leaders?
  • What expectations do you have of yourself as an employee?
  • What are the top 3 things we need to focus on for our employees?

Responses will be gathered and tied into a follow-up summary for the College and eventually implemented into our employee systems. Employees who aren’t available to attend the training may fill out an online survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8TP7XZJ.

Active Shooter Preparedness Training: Run. Hide. Fight. – Environmental Well-Being

Active shooter incidents are often unpredictable and evolve quickly. In the midst of the chaos, anyone can play an integral role in mitigating the impacts of an active shooter incident. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) aims to enhance preparedness through a "whole community" approach by providing this training to help you prepare for and respond to an active shooter incident.
